Legend’s Lounge as we await our Check-In

I remark to my husband, “nothing like our previous cruise where we were herded into a vast, crowded and stifling waiting area at the docks. Remember how we had to strain to hear our numbers called in what seemed like an endless check-in process.” It was this kind of experience that led us to the smaller ships and here we are departing St. Thomas, to cruise the Caribbean, on the Seabourn Legend, which has a capacity for a mere 208 guests. We are so relaxed we have to be gently reminded to actually check in and minutes later we are greeted by a receiving line of managerial staff and then graciously escorted to our cabin. How bright and airy we think, upon entering our spacious room, as we are drawn to the French doors that open at the end of the suite.

A curtain divides the comfortable sitting area from the sleeping quarters. Blue, taupe and gold hues in the drapery and luxurious furnishings, light-toned wood built-ins, a large walk-in closet, an inviting queen-size bed, and a marble four-piece bathroom complete our serene suite. We are touched by the cut flowers, champagne on ice, fresh fruit and personalized stationery that also await us. Julienne, our stewardess, notes our in-suite bar requests and offers a choice of designer soaps. We look around, sigh and wonder if we’ll ever want to leave our enticing home at sea.
